What to Expect from an Interior Design Consultation: Step-by-Step
If you’ve never worked with an interior designer before, booking that first consultation can feel like a big step — but it’s truly where the magic (and clarity) begins. Whether you’re building, renovating, or refreshing your home, a design consultation is a collaborative, practical starting point to bring your vision to life.
Here’s what you can expect from the process with Mia, step by step:
Step 1: Free 20-Minute Clarity Call
Before we lock in a session, I offer a complimentary 20-minute call to get to know each other, chat about your project, and ensure we’re the right fit. You can ask questions, outline your goals, and we’ll determine which service suits your needs best.
Step 2: Booking Your Consultation
Once you’re ready, we’ll schedule your consultation. These can take place on-site, in your home, or remotely — depending on what stage you’re at. I offer three types of consultations:
Building Selection Consultation – ideal for new builds or extensions
Interior Design Consultation – focused on colours, materials, layout, and detailing
Furnishing Consultation – for styling, sourcing, and finishing touches
Step 3: The Consultation Itself
This is where we get into the details. I’ll walk through your space (or plans), ask guided questions, and provide practical advice tailored to your style, needs, and budget. You’ll leave with clear direction and actionable ideas — not just inspiration.
Step 4: Follow-Up & Next Steps
After the consultation, I’ll provide a summary of recommendations and, if needed, a proposal for continued support — whether that’s mood boards, product sourcing, or end-to-end design.
A Note for Geelong Builders & Renovators
I often collaborate directly with local builders and mid-renovation clients. My process is designed to integrate smoothly with your timelines, offering trusted guidance exactly when you need it.
